Claude Code pricing

Claude Code isn't included in Claude's free plan; paid plans start at $20 a month (Pro), or $17 a month billed annually, up to $200 a month (Max 20x). Team seats start at $25 a seat a month, or $20 billed annually. You can also pay per token at API rates instead of subscribing.

Claude Code has no standalone subscription: it comes with paid Claude plans, or you can pay as you go through a Claude Console account.

  • Anthropic: “Claude Code is included in all paid plans. It shares the same usage limits as the rest of your plan, so your work in the terminal and your chats draw from one pool. For heavy coding sessions, you can also switch to pay-as-you-go API credits through a Console account.”
  • Anthropic: “If you reach your five-hour session limit while Claude Code is partway through a response, Claude Code may keep working briefly so it can finish the step in progress.”

On the pay-per-token route (Claude Console), Claude Code is billed at API rates, per million input / output tokens: Claude Sonnet 5.5 $2.00 / $10.00, Claude Opus 5.5 $4.00 / $20.00 and Claude Haiku 5.5 $0.10 / $0.50 for prompts up to 100K tokens ($0.50 / $2.50 over). Is Claude Code or Codex cheaper?

Codex is cheaper to start: ChatGPT's free plan includes it, and ChatGPT Go costs $8 a month, while Claude Code starts with Claude Pro at $20 a month. At every matched price point they cost the same: $20, $100 and $200 a month, and $25 and $125 a seat a month. Claude Pro also has annual billing at $17 a month ($200 up front); ChatGPT Plus doesn't. In the UK Claude Pro is cheaper: £18 a month against £20.
